The asparagus are finally back! The possible ways of preparation vary logically. The matching wine often focuses on a refreshing Riesling. Of course, other white wines are also suitable. In our family, Riesling always celebrates high season in combination with asparagus.

The formula seems logical, the better the uncorked wine, the greater the pleasure. The 2021 Riesling Spezial from the Roman Jäger winery offers the possible maximum. It is a special wine from the Achleiten vineyard. The winemaker produced this wine once in a lifetime by letting his best grapes hang a few days longer in the fillet piece of this top Wachau vineyard. We were so thrilled with the barrel tasting that we had 180 magnum bottles bottled exclusively for Switzerland in the fall of 2022. Of these, exactly 48 1.5-liter bottles are now still available in this offer.

2021 Riesling Spezial, Jäger Weissenkirchen Winery: Bright pale yellow with greenish reflections. Sublimely fruity bouquet with an enormous number of aromatic facets; lime-agrume tones, white peach, elderflower, grapey fruitiness at the top, mineral base at the bottom. Still polarizing on the palate. The minimally mousse acidity balances with the complexity of the rich body. Its impressive concentration gives it a very rich extract. In there lies its reserve for further bottle aging. A multi-talented wine that can be enjoyed very young and without restraint even twenty years from now. Typical of the 2021 vintage, this edition is not an “Überdrüberwein”, but an elegant special of the special class. 20/20 drink until 2040
